Column
The biggest advantage of the Hightower tripod is its design, which is based on the use of a single, central column, along which you slide the head used for mounting lamps and accessories. This design lowers the center of gravity, which makes the tripod very stable. In addition, it takes up less space than regular tripod stands, which is of great importance especially in small studios. The most important advantage of the Hightower tripod is that it has a very high working height adjustment. Thanks to the possibility of almost freely moving the head on the central column, the lamp can be mounted at heights ranging from 34 to 222 centimeters from the ground.
Durability
The central column of the tripod is made of chromium-plated steel pipes with a diameter of 35 mm, and the carriage and the head are made of powder-coated steel. These materials make this tripod very durable and long lasting.
Stability
The column is mounted on a three-wheel carriage, giving it a very low center of gravity. The casters are 55 cm from the axis of the column, giving the Hightower a wide base that improves stability and safety. The casters have a diameter of 75 mm, which makes the tripod easy to move around, even on uneven ground.
Load capacity
The Hightower can carry up to 15 kg at a weight of just over 9 kg. This high weight of the tripod is due to the use of solid structural components made of steel. The supplied head can carry up to 6 kg, which is enough to mount a powerful lamp with a large light modifier.
Head
Hightower is supplied with one head, but if necessary, you can buy an additional one, allowing you to mount additional lamps or other accessories on one tripod. The head has a very characteristic pistol shape, and the locking of its position on the center column resembles a trigger tongue. The height adjustment is wide (34~222 cm), very fast and, what is important, stepless. The 16 mm diameter stem is reversible, detachable and has a single mounting point with 1/4" thread to which you can attach your camera, camcorder, microphone etc.
Details
Almost all of the connections in the tripod are made with screws rather than rivets, which are most commonly used in cheaper tripods. The Heavy Glide comes with a set of wrenches that are needed to attach the wheels and tighten the screws if necessary. The tilt mechanism of the arm is equipped with a large handle, which guarantees a firm grip so important for safe work. The other end of the arm is equipped with a loop for hanging the counterweight. The casters have a large diameter (10 mm) and are equipped with brakes. All sections of the tripod are cushioned by springs.
